Amounts that trigger Braintree declines
In the sandbox the transaction amount, not the card, decides whether a sale is authorized. Charge one of these amounts with any valid card.
0.01 - 1999.99
Authorized and settled.
2000.00 - 2999.99
Processor declined. The processor response code equals the amount, so 2001.00 returns code 2001.
3000.00 - 3000.99
Fails with processor response 3000.
3001.00 - 4000.99
Authorized and settled.
4001.00 - 4001.99
Authorized; settlement is declined on certain payment types and settles on others.
4002.00 - 4002.99
Authorized; settlement stays pending on PayPal and settles on others.

Gateway rejected (application incomplete).

Braintree fake payment method nonces
Server-side tests can skip the Drop-in UI entirely and pass one of these nonces as the payment method nonce.

A valid Visa nonce. Mastercard, Amex and Discover variants exist too.

A valid card nonce without a billing address.
fake-processor-declined-visa-nonce
Fails verification with processor declined.
fake-luhn-invalid-nonce
Rejected by the gateway: the card number fails the Luhn check.
fake-consumed-nonce
Rejected by the gateway: the nonce was already used.
fake-paypal-one-time-nonce
Valid only with the mocked PayPal testing strategy.
fake-venmo-account-nonce
A Venmo account nonce.
fake-apple-pay-visa-nonce
An Apple Pay Visa nonce.
Braintree CVV and AVS test values
These only produce a fraud response when CVV or AVS rules are enabled on the sandbox account. Any other value matches.

How to use Braintree test cards
Braintree’s sandbox is a separate gateway with its own merchant account, API keys and control panel. Connect your integration with sandbox credentials, enter one of the valid cards above in the Drop-in UI or Hosted Fields, and charge an amount below 2000.00.
Two things decide the outcome, and it helps to keep them apart. The card number decides card verification: the cards in “Failed verification” are rejected when you verify or vault them. The amount decides the transaction: charge 2001.00 with a perfectly valid card and you get processor decline 2001. That is the quickest way to test each decline message your checkout shows.
For tests that never touch a browser, pass a fake nonce such as fake-valid-nonce as the payment method nonce in your server call.
